Congratulations babes: we survived the total solar eclipse, the great astrological and astronomical climax of 2017! So many people were in awe of our sky for the first time, wowed by our human insignificance on this tiny planet orbiting our Sun. Perhaps it’s our busy modern life and bright lights that keep us from wondering about humanity’s place in the greater universe. Whether you watched it with others or alone, meditated or danced, cried or hollered, the total solar eclipse was truly a magical event. And it isn’t over yet: astrologically we will be seeing and feeling eclipse vibes reverberate for the next six months to two years as eclipses along the Leo-Aquarius polarity continue.

Moving out of warm, dramatic Leo and into critical, detail-oriented Virgo could feel like the grounding we need to get things done. It could also feel like we are left to organize and clean up the afterbirth of a messy eclipse season. As we collectively ease into fall, the days become shorter. Light is diminished, temperatures start to cool and plants begin to die. September offers the shift of Mercury, Venus and Mars into accommodating Virgo. The Sun moves into Libra signaling the autumn equinox and providing a breath of fresh air. As we step towards the darkness of winter, we must do the methodical, analytical Virgo work of attending to our health and healing and refining our vision of a more just and equitable world.

Astro pro tip: if you’re interested in a more detailed list of dates when planets change signs this month, scroll down to the end of the horoscopes.

Life is disruptive, messy, yet we survive and continue on. We must grow and shift and constantly shed outdated skin in order to not be trapped in our past. Life is so short, and you my dear fire princess have no need to pretend to be who you are not. Consider the beginning of the month to be the last zing of heat this summer and take advantage of your energy and enthusiasm. Exuberant fire energy burns bright in your house of pleasure and creativity during the first half of September, but as planets move from Leo to Virgo mid-month you will find yourself brought back down to earth, focused on the practical mundane details of daily life. Utilize the Virgo new moon on September 19 to set a new intention around your health, chores, to-do lists, or service to others.

Change is painful but remaining stagnant can be even worse. You may have spent the last few months getting so caught up in what’s going on underneath the surface that your path forward looks like a blur. Your challenge is balance, dear stubborn one: you cannot let the internal life override the external, or vice versa. Find ways to honor where you come from without forgetting where you are headed. With so much planetary action in your house of creativity and joy, this month provides many opportunities for creative analysis, joyful categorizing and sexy data. The neurotic Virgo new moon on September 19 is the perfect time to start a new project or love affair to keep you warm this winter.

Tell me about your plans to put love into action, chatty Cathy. Tell me about your ideas and dreams for these months ahead. Tell me about your experiences, lessons, and heartbreaks that have unraveled over this beautiful-yet-hard summer. As Mercury moves retrograde from Virgo back into Leo during the first eight days of September, revisit or reinterpret themes that came up for you during the total solar eclipse. Who or what is calling to you now? How can you lean into love and act on your values in daily life? Mercury stations direct on September 5 and swiftly moves into efficient Virgo on September 9. Spend the last half of the month revisiting or renegotiating issues related to home, family, and who or where you come from.

Life keeps moving, even though the ground beneath you is shifting quicker than you can keep up. This month, breathe new life into your written and verbal self-expression. Dust off that old journal, start a podcast, blog about your passions or begin a daily letter writing practice. Transform your inner voice into something that can be shared with those around you and see if projecting your voice into the void helps you feel heard in new ways. As we move away from the light and towards winter darkness, methodical and practical communication has the potential to transform old ideas and patterns. If you feel lost or disconnected from your voice, draw divine feminine inspiration from the full moon in Pisces on September 6. It’s easy to get lost in the mundane details of what we already know; call upon the fluidity and permeability of mutable water to help you dream up new ways to survive.

The term “self-care” is overused and misunderstood as it becomes more common vernacular in our capitalist U.S. culture, but I want to encourage you to care for yourself honestly and deeply this month. With sensual Venus in your house of self and identity, find ways to fall in love with the very essence of you. Buy yourself flowers. Take yourself on long romantic walks on the beach. Enchant yourself with the tender flirty Leo passion that you usually save for others. On September 12, warm-hearted Venus and truth-seeking Saturn support you in setting loving boundaries for yourself and others. When you put to rest outdated versions of yourself, you free up opportunities for deeper self-acceptance.

Out of the darkness and into the light, out of the past and into the present: this is the time to finally get the clarity you’ve been seeking. Leo season was too hot, too explosive, too grandiose for your taste. This month trust your instinct. Pay attention to your center, your guts. It is time to share the creative process you’ve been devoted to with others, breathing new joy and imagination into your art. As Mercury stations direct on September 5th, the same day Mars moves into your house of self, beware of inflammation and overdoing it. Yes your vitality is high, but you are not immune from burnout. Put your plans into motion, but include rest and recovery time into those plans.

The world needs you harmonious honey, not the things you provide for others. Self-sacrifice comes easy but this is no time to play the martyr. Spend this month paying attention to how much you agree to take on the work that belongs to others; saying no can save you from feeling spiteful and overburdened when you’re alone with an endless to-do list. What actions can you take to fine-tune the balance between personal satisfaction and responsibility to the greater good? Tap into the intuitive Pisces full moon on September 6 to celebrate physical or spiritual healing that you’ve accomplished over the last few months. Look back and notice if/how your emotional boundaries have shifted since the Pisces new moon in February. Release the minute details and go with the flow rather than trying to control your next move.

As the heightened joys of summer fun come to a close, tune in to the needs of your community. Who are the people around you? Who are your neighbors, collaborators, friends and colleagues? Where can you connect with your networks to fulfill social needs? The Virgo new moon on September 19 marks the beginning of a new chapter in service to groups and coalitions. Now is the time to slowly embark on new community-based activities, such as bringing together and caring for burnt out activists and marginalized people. Your ability to see in the dark is a gift, but your personal power becomes even more potent when you share and utilize your gifts for greater community healing.

September promises to be a stimulating month for your career or public-facing role. Your professional identity benefits from meticulous activities that seem daunting, like balancing checkbooks or creating new Excel spreadsheets to organize information more efficiently. Transformation doesn’t always happen during solo meditation practices and silent retreats, so keep your eyes open for opportunities to transcend beyond your current state. Stay focused and don’t fall into a trap of self-criticism and the outcome will enhance your personal sense of worth, as well as your finances. Set Virgo new moon wishes around work goals or aspirations that you’d like to accomplish over the next six months.

There is no right way to be spiritual. Religious perfectionism and a philosophy based on flawlessness are difficult to manifest in our complex world. Seeking deeper meaning or truth will become your focus this month, but it’s time to reconcile your fear of the messy, wild, chaotic realities. Writing or speaking about injustice you see around you can be a useful outlet for making sense of the madness. Imperfection is part of the process, part of growth and transformation. It’s painful to let others see beyond your perfect achievements, but your raw, truly authentic potential is within your grasp if you share your failures with others.

Relationships with others, or just relating to humans in general, has been occupying much of your time lately, you lovely weirdo. Whether the eclipse torched your existing beliefs about relationships or reinforced your desire to be loved whole-heartedly, the power-play between self and other has been intense these past few months. Sweet Venus in fiery Leo will soothe some of the scars left by the Leo eclipse, but notice tension between your desire for unbridled freedom and your responsibility to partners or lovers. The Virgo new moon asks you to use critical reasoning and logic to battle internalized shame, taboo, fear and limitations. Facing and integrating your own shadow qualities will be highly productive in the coming months, especially if you have a detailed plan.

As a sensitive water creature, you are deeply tuned in to the collective psyche. How have your energetic boundaries been strengthened or weakened by the solar eclipse? Have you noticed that you are fatigued by stress and anxiety that don’t actually belong to you? Take greater care of your health this month. Healing is not always linear, and we slip easily back into old familiar patterns that don’t actually take us where we need to go. Romance may take front and center this month, but don’t lose yourself in caretaking others. Throw a party for the September 6 full moon in Pisces, even if it’s just you and your cat; think back to the new moon eclipse in February 2017 and celebrate on all you’ve accomplished since in then.

Notes on planetary ingresses (i.e. when planets move sign) and new/full moon details for September:

September 6: Full Moon in Pisces. This full moon connects with Neptune, the planet that aches for escapism and surrender. Find ways to tap into deeper consciousness and collective dreams.

Retrograde Focus We’re all familiar with the annual urge to spring clean. As flower bulbs push through the ground and buds form on the branches, we’re equally inspired to breathe new life into our physical spaces. This April, we are also asked to clean up our psychological baggage. With a whopping four planets in retrograde, this is the granddaddy of mulligans, and our chance to try different approaches in order to manifest the results we are seeking. We will have lots of love in our corner as we endeavor to change the constructs that hold us back, as both the Libra Full Moon on the 11th, and Taurus New Moon on the 26th, are ruled by Venus, the Goddess of Love who encourages us to seek balance and beauty in our relationships to people, spaces and resources.

Our month of retrogrades begins with an Aries infused Venus moving back into Pisces on the 3rd. At this point, we’ve reassessed our personal values in relationships and can now apply them to reimagining our self-love and relationship ideals. This may work hand-in-hand with Saturn’s retrograde starting on the 6th, which pushes us to evolve our belief systems. If we do the work, we’ll be charged and open to receive the love we are seeking when Venus goes direct on the 15th. On April 10th, Mercury enters retrograde and brings communication challenges until May 3rd, encouraging us to practice serenity, patience and mindfulness. Finally, Pluto goes retrograde in Capricorn on the 20th, encouraging us to change the ways we have been approaching familial, social and political structures.

During the first week of April, Venus retrograde brings focus to the roles of balance and ritual in your spiritual life, while Saturn retrograde allows you to begin replacing old and outdated world views. Mercury retrograde on the 10th may slow communications and transactions related to financial matters--wait until after May 3rd to move forward with major contracts. The Libra Full Moon may bring change to a business or romantic relationship around the 11th. During the last week of April, you may feel that your material and spiritual philosophies are at odds with each other. Writing down some clear and organized lists about your values will create clarity. On the 26th, the Taurus New Moon helps you manifest intentions for integrating your life values as well as seeking abundance.

Early this month, Venus retrograde invites you to rethink your approach to promoting equality and justice within your community, while Saturn retrograde helps you dissolve ineffective partnerships and make plans that will increase your access to other people’s resources. When Mercury goes retrograde from April 10th to May 3rd, you’ll experience difficulty expressing yourself and may feel some confusion about your place in the world. However, you’ll be making progress throughout the month and the more you can bring organization and structure to your thinking, the more clarity you’ll receive about who you are and what you’re here to do. On the 11th, the Libra Full Moon brings attention to support that helps you succeed at work, and is a good time to honor work relationships with gratitude. At the end of the month, you’ll be super motivated to grow your bank account, and the Taurus New Moon will further help you set intentions for accruing the resources you need.

Venus retrograde brings focus to your career early this month, encouraging you to align vocation and values and to seek balance in the workplace. From April 6th to August 25th, Saturn retrograde will impact your relationships by reorganizing the roles and responsibilities in personal or business partnerships. Following the 10th, Mercury retrograde may hinder communication with your inner-self or higher power. Try opening up different channels for spiritual expression at this time, and take it easy on yourself. The Libra Full Moon may deliver a creative charge, and by the end of the month, you’ll feel increased passion and drive to take life by the handlebars and ride with power. The Taurus New Moon at the end of the month will initiate a process of uncovering desires that have been lying beneath the surface. Connect with the earth to help unearth these feelings--it's time to start digging!

Early this month you’ll start rethinking your ideals about beauty and how you give and receive love. You’ll also be restructuring your daily activities with an eye to living your truth and searching for meaning, even in menial tasks. Mercury goes retrograde on the 10th, potentially straining conversations within a community group. At the same time, the Libra Full Moon may bring attention to the balance of relationships in your family. A close relationship will undergo major evolution over the next five months while latent feelings or information begin to surface over this time. The Taurus New Moon at the end of the month helps open new dialogue within the community. Grounding exercises, moments of silence or checking in before meetings will further help group cohesion.

In the beginning of April, the energies are working to drive active change within the macro and micro aspects of your career. You will also be compelled to act on your philosophical viewpoints, although, you may face opposition or feel bound by daily responsibilities. Around the 10th, the Libra Full Moon may bring focus to sibling or neighbor relationships. As Saturn turns retrograde, you will be challenged to research and seek novel ways to access inspiration and express your creativity. At the end of the month, you may feel more vocal at work, however, communications will be challenged by Mercury retrograde--choose your words carefully. The Taurus New Moon is an opportunity to set intentions for your work to bring you abundance.

Early this month, a creative class may inspire activism that aligns with your worldview. The Saturn retrograde period, starting on the 6th and lasting four months, will serve to realign familiar structures that may have become imbalanced. Additionally, romantic relationships may feel more confusing than usual during the first few weeks of April. Wait to make any moves until after the 21st. You may also be taking action in your career at this time. It will be helpful to collect all the data before going head to head with a colleague. The Taurus New Moon on the 26th is a time to start considering if your material belongings are aligned with your global viewpoints.

In the beginning of April, consider the changes you can make in your daily routine to welcome beauty into your life. This may be as simple as stopping to smell the roses. Saturn retrograde encourages you to restructure opportunities for learning and sharing information, while the Libra Full Moon on the 11th may help to bring balance, bolster confidence and even make your physical appearance more attractive. Toward the end of April, you may find yourself focused on shared experiences of intimacy, shared finances or supernatural events. The magic will be in your corner if you plan to participate in a witchy ritual to honor the Taurus New Moon.

Early this month, Venus retrograde encourages you to explore new opportunities for creative expression and to reconsider what “beautiful” really means in a creative context. You may also start to realign your material possessions with your values if the two have become disconnected. Starting around the 10th, you may be rethinking some of your relationships. Wait to take action until after May 3rd. The Libra Full Moon will serve to dissolve the ego and deepen your connection with your inner-self. This will ground you and prepare you for relationship development, which will be the focus of your Taurus New Moon on the 26th.

Early this month you’ll be thinking of new ways to give and receive love and create balance within familial relationships. Be open to course corrections during the four month Saturn retrograde period as it helps you refine your direction and get back on track. When Mercury goes retrograde on the 10th, expect some challenges with technology and transportation. The Libra Full Moon may bring attention to your diplomacy in a community matter. Later this month you’ll feel heightened passion in a romantic relationship. The Taurus New Moon on the 26th encourages grounding exercises like gardening or enjoying herbal tea to nurture your daily routine.

Early in the four month Saturn retrograde period, you may rethink opportunities for creative expression, and the Taurus new moon on the 26th, will further encourage this artistic experimentation. Saturn retrograde will also brings focus to your spiritual belief systems and encourages you to create an action plan for spiritual development. The Libra Full Moon may illuminate opportunities for greater balance in your career around the 10th. During the last week of April, you’ll be energized and action oriented when it comes to your daily checklists.

Take time in the beginning of the month to inventory your values, and assess new opportunities for developing resources through the law of attraction. You may see some restructuring of your community groups over the next four months. Starting on the 10th, Mercury retrograde may challenge communication with family members, and around this same time the Libra Full Moon will illuminate your personal connections to global matters. Later this month, you may feel particularly invested in improving your home life. Around the 22nd, you’ll become passionate about a creative project, and you’ll have all the moxie and drive to pull it off. On the 26th, the Taurus New Moon offers an opportunity to invite love and abundance into your family. Celebrate this day with a family outing in nature.

At the beginning of April, place your focus on self-love. Be kind and patient with your self, allowing time for reflection and meditation in order to develop a deeper connection with self. Over the next four months you may experience some restructuring in your workplace. Be patient and wait to see what develops before taking action. On the 11th, the Libra Full Moon will heighten expression of intimacy in a relationship. Mercury retrograde will slow the spread of information until May 3rd, further testing you to practice patience. On the 26th, the Taurus New Moon will help to remove blockages in communication.

Horoscopes October 2016

Read for your rising sign if you know it and/or your sun sign. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified when new horoscopes are released.

The fall equinox on September 22nd is one of two days in the entire year when the Earth’s axis is stationed parallel to the Sun, creating an almost equal amount of daylight and darkness at all latitudes. It is apt that on this day of balanced light energy, the sun moves into the sign of Libra, driving us to develop equitable partnerships. Keenly aware of the tipping scale, we are reminded that a relationship must feed the self, as the self must feed a relationship. When the Sun moves into Scorpio on October 22nd, we dive deeper into the mysteries of relatedness, and act on our instincts, letting go of associations no longer serving us, while adding more passion and emotional intensity to those dear to our hearts. This month, it is time to actively engage the give and take, the push and pull, and the dark and light that exist to facilitate growth. The Aries full moon on October 15th will be a reminder of these dichotomies, bringing some heartfelt relationship work to culmination, and driving a deeper sense of self and empowerment.
This month, harmonious Venus wants you to understand the common ground between opposing viewpoints. Your ability to see beyond individual outlooks may help surface win-win outcomes within your community, or lift the spirits of those brought down by distressing world events and political posturing. When thoughtful Mercury and optimistic Jupiter meet on the 10th, they encourage you to engage in meaningful dialogue with relationship partners. This is a great day to send a note of gratitude and love to the special people in your life. Pay attention to your inner Ram on the 15th when the Aries full moon reminds you of the personal requirements you need met in order to maintain balance in your relationships.
When charming Venus, your chart ruler, moves into the 8th house of other people’s resources on the 18th, expect to receive tokens of affection in gratitude for your social acumen and harmonious presence. Whether these gifts come from friends, family or the divine, they arrive to simply thank you for being you. The 8th house also rules sex and magic, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself participating in experiences that transcend the physical plane. Towards the end of the month, ego-attentive Sun and contemplative Mercury move into Scorpio, opposing your natal Sun. At this time, you’ll be giving a lot of thought to which things in your life you should hold onto, and which you can let go.
Gemini the creative connector shines this October in the social circuit, buzzing from scene to scene with even more than its usual surplus of ideas. When vocal Mercury joins the Sun and Jupiter in your house of creativity from the 7th to 21st, make sure you focus your ingenuity in the right places, and don’t get caught up in the gossip channel. In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, “Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.” Focusing your energy on “great mind” activity may even attract or strengthen romantic partnerships as charming Venus moves into your house of relationships on the 18th.

Pensive Mercury has you thinking hard about your ancestry and familial relationships this month from from the 7th through the 23rd. After this period of reflection, Mercury joins the Sun in Scorpio, lighting up your 5th house of creativity, children and pets. You’ll find yourself channeling your inner child through craft and play, just in time to pull together a mysterious Halloween costume or plan a graveyard scavenger hunt. Balance-seeking Venus enters your 6th house of service this month, encouraging joining up with team members at work to get the job done.
Nothing fuels Leo’s fire for life like witnessing the Sun, his chart ruler, rise above a majestic mountaintop, or dip gracefully below the ocean’s horizon at day’s end. So pack a sack and hit the road this 2nd or 3rd week of October for a quick trip to the mountains or coast. As the Sun and Mercury join forces in your house of short journeys and communication, you’ll find yourself extra open to life lessons as told through the stories of your environment and siblings. Your adventure may even deliver a romantic tryst as loving Venus lights up your house of creative play and love affairs starting on the 18th.
With lovely Venus lighting up your home and family life this month, you’ll be focused on creating more beauty and comfort in your physical space. The Sun continues to charge your finances until the 22nd, so go ahead and splurge for that new furniture set or room remodel. During the last week of October, the Sun and Mercury invite you to connect with, and learn from your neighbors. What a great time to host a social event in your newly reimagined space! Word games will be a big hit at this party.
September 30th’s new moon in Libra kicks off a month of manifestation in the arena of relationship building, and when chatty Mercury meets expansive Jupiter here on October 7th, you are supercharged for socializing this month. While you are drawn to the center of the party like a moth to a flame, remember that Libra is about balance, and enjoying some sweet solace will also serve you well. When the Sun and Mercury move into Scorpio at the end of the month, you’ll be thinking about what’s important to you. Identifying and pursuing your passions will be fruitful both emotionally and financially.
During the first half of this month, you’ll be feeling extra sensitive to all the feels around you, and especially attuned to the cosmic flow. Listen to your gut and you will make headway in your committed search to unravel the existential mysteries of life. When Venus brings alignment to your values mid-month, you will enjoy a greater sense of harmony within this complex carbon ecosystem, and by the 22nd you’ll be thriving in your water element as the Sun and Mercury team up in Scorpio. If teleporting beyond the material muck is not what you had in mind this month, try grounding yourself through massage, gardening or cooking.  Even spiritual warriors can benefit from the comforting touch of Mother Earth.

Early this month you’ll play a leading role in community affairs, offering a sound voice of reason and ideas to restore justice. When diplomatic Venus illuminates your philosophical identity on the 18th, you can further solidify your image as an ambassador of light, love and good will. During the last week of October, thoughtful Mercury joins the Sun in your 12th house of karma. Stay alert to the cosmic causes and effects coming at you this week, and remember that life is not so easily controlled. As long as you are centered in who you are and what you believe, you will always have an anchor to drop when the swell of life’s tides begins to rock you.
After six long months of retrograde, Pluto is moving forward again in Capricorn. You’ve spent some time this year reflecting on, and relearning how to assert your power. Now you will benefit from a period of growth and transformation affecting your familial structures or business. The salient Sun and cunning Mercury will further boost your career this month, helping you to shine in the spotlight. Take advantage of these energies by leading a new business pitch or public speaking event before October 22nd.

Social Venus lights up community relationships this month, giving you extra affinity for networking, and helping you shine in large groups. The Aries full moon on October 15th may bring an important relationship to maturity, one that will strengthen your personal power.  The effort you’ve extended towards diplomacy will help your illuminate your cunning intellect at work during the last week of October. If your job involves research and discovery, expect to make some breakthroughs at this time.
Equitable Venus blesses your career this month by helping you foster business relationships based on like-minded philosophies. However, don’t discount a dissenting viewpoint, it is often the antagonist that pushes forward the plot. Pay attention to what those around you value and hold dear, you may benefit from an overflow of their resources. When the Sun moves into Scorpio on the 22nd, with vocal Mercury following close behind, communicate your philosophies carefully and you will be able to manifest what you desire.
