Congratulations babes: we survived the total solar eclipse, the great astrological and astronomical climax of 2017! So many people were in awe of our sky for the first time, wowed by our human insignificance on this tiny planet orbiting our Sun. Perhaps it’s our busy modern life and bright lights that keep us from wondering about humanity’s place in the greater universe. Whether you watched it with others or alone, meditated or danced, cried or hollered, the total solar eclipse was truly a magical event. And it isn’t over yet: astrologically we will be seeing and feeling eclipse vibes reverberate for the next six months to two years as eclipses along the Leo-Aquarius polarity continue.

Moving out of warm, dramatic Leo and into critical, detail-oriented Virgo could feel like the grounding we need to get things done. It could also feel like we are left to organize and clean up the afterbirth of a messy eclipse season. As we collectively ease into fall, the days become shorter. Light is diminished, temperatures start to cool and plants begin to die. September offers the shift of Mercury, Venus and Mars into accommodating Virgo. The Sun moves into Libra signaling the autumn equinox and providing a breath of fresh air. As we step towards the darkness of winter, we must do the methodical, analytical Virgo work of attending to our health and healing and refining our vision of a more just and equitable world.

Astro pro tip: if you’re interested in a more detailed list of dates when planets change signs this month, scroll down to the end of the horoscopes.

ARIES RISING (OR ARIES SUN)

Life is disruptive, messy, yet we survive and continue on. We must grow and shift and constantly shed outdated skin in order to not be trapped in our past. Life is so short, and you my dear fire princess have no need to pretend to be who you are not. Consider the beginning of the month to be the last zing of heat this summer and take advantage of your energy and enthusiasm. Exuberant fire energy burns bright in your house of pleasure and creativity during the first half of September, but as planets move from Leo to Virgo mid-month you will find yourself brought back down to earth, focused on the practical mundane details of daily life. Utilize the Virgo new moon on September 19 to set a new intention around your health, chores, to-do lists, or service to others.

TAURUS RISING (OR TAURUS SUN)

Change is painful but remaining stagnant can be even worse. You may have spent the last few months getting so caught up in what’s going on underneath the surface that your path forward looks like a blur. Your challenge is balance, dear stubborn one: you cannot let the internal life override the external, or vice versa. Find ways to honor where you come from without forgetting where you are headed. With so much planetary action in your house of creativity and joy, this month provides many opportunities for creative analysis, joyful categorizing and sexy data. The neurotic Virgo new moon on September 19 is the perfect time to start a new project or love affair to keep you warm this winter.

GEMINI RISING (OR GEMINI SUN)

Tell me about your plans to put love into action, chatty Cathy. Tell me about your ideas and dreams for these months ahead. Tell me about your experiences, lessons, and heartbreaks that have unraveled over this beautiful-yet-hard summer. As Mercury moves retrograde from Virgo back into Leo during the first eight days of September, revisit or reinterpret themes that came up for you during the total solar eclipse. Who or what is calling to you now? How can you lean into love and act on your values in daily life? Mercury stations direct on September 5 and swiftly moves into efficient Virgo on September 9. Spend the last half of the month revisiting or renegotiating issues related to home, family, and who or where you come from.

CANCER RISING (OR CANCER SUN)

Life keeps moving, even though the ground beneath you is shifting quicker than you can keep up. This month, breathe new life into your written and verbal self-expression. Dust off that old journal, start a podcast, blog about your passions or begin a daily letter writing practice. Transform your inner voice into something that can be shared with those around you and see if projecting your voice into the void helps you feel heard in new ways. As we move away from the light and towards winter darkness, methodical and practical communication has the potential to transform old ideas and patterns. If you feel lost or disconnected from your voice, draw divine feminine inspiration from the full moon in Pisces on September 6. It’s easy to get lost in the mundane details of what we already know; call upon the fluidity and permeability of mutable water to help you dream up new ways to survive.

LEO RISING (OR LEO SUN)

The term “self-care” is overused and misunderstood as it becomes more common vernacular in our capitalist U.S. culture, but I want to encourage you to care for yourself honestly and deeply this month. With sensual Venus in your house of self and identity, find ways to fall in love with the very essence of you. Buy yourself flowers. Take yourself on long romantic walks on the beach. Enchant yourself with the tender flirty Leo passion that you usually save for others. On September 12, warm-hearted Venus and truth-seeking Saturn support you in setting loving boundaries for yourself and others. When you put to rest outdated versions of yourself, you free up opportunities for deeper self-acceptance.

VIRGO RISING (OR VIRGO SUN)

Out of the darkness and into the light, out of the past and into the present: this is the time to finally get the clarity you’ve been seeking. Leo season was too hot, too explosive, too grandiose for your taste. This month trust your instinct. Pay attention to your center, your guts. It is time to share the creative process you’ve been devoted to with others, breathing new joy and imagination into your art. As Mercury stations direct on September 5th, the same day Mars moves into your house of self, beware of inflammation and overdoing it. Yes your vitality is high, but you are not immune from burnout. Put your plans into motion, but include rest and recovery time into those plans.

LIBRA RISING (OR LIBRA SUN)

The world needs you harmonious honey, not the things you provide for others. Self-sacrifice comes easy but this is no time to play the martyr. Spend this month paying attention to how much you agree to take on the work that belongs to others; saying no can save you from feeling spiteful and overburdened when you’re alone with an endless to-do list. What actions can you take to fine-tune the balance between personal satisfaction and responsibility to the greater good? Tap into the intuitive Pisces full moon on September 6 to celebrate physical or spiritual healing that you’ve accomplished over the last few months. Look back and notice if/how your emotional boundaries have shifted since the Pisces new moon in February. Release the minute details and go with the flow rather than trying to control your next move.

SCORPIO RISING (OR SCORPIO SUN)

As the heightened joys of summer fun come to a close, tune in to the needs of your community. Who are the people around you? Who are your neighbors, collaborators, friends and colleagues? Where can you connect with your networks to fulfill social needs? The Virgo new moon on September 19 marks the beginning of a new chapter in service to groups and coalitions. Now is the time to slowly embark on new community-based activities, such as bringing together and caring for burnt out activists and marginalized people. Your ability to see in the dark is a gift, but your personal power becomes even more potent when you share and utilize your gifts for greater community healing.

SAGITTARIUS RISING (OR SAGITTARIUS SUN)

September promises to be a stimulating month for your career or public-facing role. Your professional identity benefits from meticulous activities that seem daunting, like balancing checkbooks or creating new Excel spreadsheets to organize information more efficiently. Transformation doesn’t always happen during solo meditation practices and silent retreats, so keep your eyes open for opportunities to transcend beyond your current state. Stay focused and don’t fall into a trap of self-criticism and the outcome will enhance your personal sense of worth, as well as your finances. Set Virgo new moon wishes around work goals or aspirations that you’d like to accomplish over the next six months.

CAPRICORN RISING (OR CAPRICORN SUN)

There is no right way to be spiritual. Religious perfectionism and a philosophy based on flawlessness are difficult to manifest in our complex world. Seeking deeper meaning or truth will become your focus this month, but it’s time to reconcile your fear of the messy, wild, chaotic realities. Writing or speaking about injustice you see around you can be a useful outlet for making sense of the madness. Imperfection is part of the process, part of growth and transformation. It’s painful to let others see beyond your perfect achievements, but your raw, truly authentic potential is within your grasp if you share your failures with others.

AQUARIUS RISING (OR AQUARIUS SUN)

Relationships with others, or just relating to humans in general, has been occupying much of your time lately, you lovely weirdo. Whether the eclipse torched your existing beliefs about relationships or reinforced your desire to be loved whole-heartedly, the power-play between self and other has been intense these past few months. Sweet Venus in fiery Leo will soothe some of the scars left by the Leo eclipse, but notice tension between your desire for unbridled freedom and your responsibility to partners or lovers. The Virgo new moon asks you to use critical reasoning and logic to battle internalized shame, taboo, fear and limitations. Facing and integrating your own shadow qualities will be highly productive in the coming months, especially if you have a detailed plan.

PISCES RISING (OR PISCES SUN)

As a sensitive water creature, you are deeply tuned in to the collective psyche. How have your energetic boundaries been strengthened or weakened by the solar eclipse? Have you noticed that you are fatigued by stress and anxiety that don’t actually belong to you? Take greater care of your health this month. Healing is not always linear, and we slip easily back into old familiar patterns that don’t actually take us where we need to go. Romance may take front and center this month, but don’t lose yourself in caretaking others. Throw a party for the September 6 full moon in Pisces, even if it’s just you and your cat; think back to the new moon eclipse in February 2017 and celebrate on all you’ve accomplished since in then.

Notes on planetary ingresses (i.e. when planets move sign) and new/full moon details for September:

September 5: Mercury stations direct at 29 degrees Leo, which is where the solar eclipse occurred last month. Prepare to revisit or return to things that were coming up for you at the end of last month.

September 5: Mars moves into Virgo. Beware of getting stuck in cycles of passive-aggressive nagging and criticism.

September 6: Full Moon in Pisces. This full moon connects with Neptune, the planet that aches for escapism and surrender. Find ways to tap into deeper consciousness and collective dreams.

September 9: Mercury moves into Virgo. After spending some of June and all of August in Virgo, Mercury now returns to retrace their footsteps.

September 19: Venus moves into Virgo. Time to get serious about your values and find ways to serve the greater good. If you’ve been meaning to volunteer, attend an anti-racism rally or fundraise for a friend in need, now is the time to get started.

September 19: New Moon in Virgo. This new moon offers a chance to get down to the nitty gritty details. If you need a clean slate to help you move forward and put thoughts into action, Moon and Sun in Virgo will support a more detailed critical analysis.

September 22: Sun moves into Libra. Happy Autumn Equinox! Libra is ruled by the scales, aiming for harmony and justice. Find ways to celebrate the light and dark, which are in balance today.

We are all seeking relief in these difficult times. While June may or may not bring the things that you crave, it will offer significant shifts in the astro weather, beginning with with strong fire and air energies and ending with deep watery depths. As three planets move into Cancer this month, remember that the crab can be emotive and moody while remaining sympathetic and nurturing. This cardinal water sign swims in the Yin undercurrent of our subconscious desires. Cancer’s vulnerability and nostalgia are not valued under our capitalist society that dictates production and action at any cost, so we often disregard the strengths of this archetype. Cancer season brings familial love and connection, as well as deep healing potential. Remember to indulge your senses (smell, hear, taste, see and touch) as we move towards the initiation of summer and Cancer season.

  • June 9th: The Full Moon in Sagittarius seeks to connect us to our deepest truth, no matter how bitter it may under Saturn’s influence. Jupiter in Libra stations direct the same day, moving us forward as we seek abundance and growth through our connection to others.
  • June 16th: Neptune stations retrograde and hours later the Moon meets Neptune in Pisces. Use the energy of this day to dream up utopias for future generations, and use Saturn’s structure to refine these dreams and guide you to action.
  • June 20th: The Summer Solstice signifies the start of Cancer season as the Sun moves into the sign of the crab.
  • June 21st: Mercury moves into Cancer, joining Mars and Sun in the sign of the moody healer. With three planets in Cancer, opposing Pluto in Capricorn, the collective is called to nurture and protect our roots.
  • June 23rd: The New Moon in Cancer represents a major opportunity for healing, receiving messages from our deep subconscious, planting an intention or establishing a new goal for the rest of 2017. What needs to be nurtured, replenished and emotionally tended to at this time?

 ARIES RISING (OR ARIES SUN)

Unpredictable and rebellious Uranus has been in hotheaded Aries since 2011, asking you to redefine how you show up in the world. Think back: have you rediscovered yourself in unexpected ways? Perhaps the shift has been shocking and uncomfortable, or perhaps breaking tradition has freed your inner rebel. In any case, the month begins with charming Venus colliding with electric Uranus on June 3rd, providing an “a-ha” moment about what you love and hold dear. With grounded Saturn refining your worldview, the way to learn your limits is to toe the line between theory and practice. Do you have the courage to invoke radical self-love, unpredictable courage or electric desire? Beware of the poorly expressed side of Venus in Aries which can act on selfish impulse instead of honoring true values.

TAURUS RISING (OR TAURUS SUN)

This may sound boring, but bear with me my humble babes, as you often find joy in the mundane. This is the month for taking inventory of your stuff: your money, your belongings and your wealth. Every knick-knack, every childhood birthday card and every priceless, thrifted treasure. Don’t forget to examine internal gifts, talents or skills with gentle curiosity. Take a look at what you treasure and what you have carried from one home to the next. Multifaceted Mercury will be at home in fast moving Gemini June 6th through June 20th, bringing the gift of curiosity over “stuff” of all kinds. This ability to relate to the world around you will be enhanced by high femme queen Venus as she moves into Taurus on June 6th. In this sign, Venus asks you to take advantage of this ability to collect and transmute information, attract others and rediscover the pleasures in life.

GEMINI RISING (OR GEMINI SUN)

Stern Saturn has been in your house of relationships since December 2014, helping you structure, define and refine your beliefs about relating to others. Remember astro newbies: when I say “relationships” I’m not just talking romantic monogamous partners; I’m talking roommates, close friendships, lovers and beloved co-workers and the people who drive you to the airport and bring you comfort foods when you’re ill. As the bright summer Sun and versatile Mercury move through your first house of self this month, watch out for conflicts or tensions between self-expression and the expectations you have for others.  This will be especially true from June 14th through June 18th. Remember that your dualistic nature is a gift, allowing you to see these issues from all sides.

CANCER RISING (OR CANCER SUN)

As a lunar babe, you’re a big ball ‘o feels, but let’s not pretend those feelings are all gentle and kind. Assertive warrior Mars moves into sidestepping Cancer on June 4th and stays there until July 20th. The collective vibe will be irritable, self-protective and sensitive. You might feel called to protect yourself and fight for self-preservation. There are lots of ways to fight: maybe you withdraw and stay inside with Netflix and something to snuggle in order to defend that inner tenderness, or maybe you fight with Mars energy and uncover a new way to assert yourself. As you channel your gut impulses, remember that Mars in hard-shelled Cancer can use emotional waters to cut others down and drown them. Water power is passive, but it’s also erosive, especially when colluding with destructive Pluto and limiting Saturn.

LEO RISING (OR LEO SUN)

I know you love play more than most, my bright kitten. Your fun has been somewhat more serious since the end of 2014, with Saturn in your house of fun, sex  and creativity. Rigid Saturn in freedom loving Sagittarius has been your guide in refining your creative vision, while Uranus moves through your house of philosophy and worldview. How has your awareness been expanded? How has it offered you insights into things you never could have anticipated? How can you remain flexible and allow spirituality and theory to unfurl before you? Use your charm, fueled by Venus in Taurus, after June 6th to favorably influence your public life with beauty and harmony. Now is a wonderful opportunity to build a relationship with a mentor or to get guidance about the work you’re here to do.

VIRGO RISING (OR VIRGO SUN)

We all know you can be a little uptight, Virgo, but your ability to plan, calculate and dissect helps you get what you need in this earthly realm. Early in the month, take advantage of giantess Jupiter in balanced Libra expanding your values, money and financial resources. From June 6th to June 19th, the bright Sun and charming Mercury in Gemini in your house of career and public life give you a great opportunity to ask for what you want out of your career. If it makes sense, ask for a raise or increase your sliding scale rate for your healing arts practice. As Mars moves into sensitive Cancer on June 20th, tap into your nurturing nature when working in groups. Work with others to meet your goals and find ways to engage in social justice work in your community.

LIBRA RISING (OR LIBRA SUN)

You are skilled at the balancing act of pleasing others and making new friends, harmonious honey, but what moves you? What issues or causes push you to own your perspective on justice? How can you expand your awareness and lend your relational gifts globally or in your own neighborhood association? On June 9th, Jupiter starts to move direct, supporting the integration of what you have learned since the giant planet started her retrograde journey in February 2017. Now is the time to recognize your gifts and apply them. Lead with your beautiful heart and don’t downplay your talents. Self-love and self-appreciation are important at this time. If you’re still not sure what I’m talking about, you may gain some clarity when erratic Uranus and tenderhearted Venus collide in Aries on June 3rd, bringing an unexpected replay of some you-vs-me energy.

SCORPIO RISING (OR SCORPIO SUN)

What do you believe, you powerful creature? What is truth and what is not? What philosophies do you value and which belief systems are you ready to retire? Expansive Jupiter has been sitting in your house of hidden or subconscious affairs since September 2016 and will stay there until October 2017. You are much less ego-driven at this time, and your ability to empathize has increased. Whether you are strongly drawn to the occult, the church or the academic institutions, look for connection to higher knowledge. As Mars moves into your house of educational systems and collective knowledge on June 4th, be careful not to confuse yourself with your ideologies; you are more than what you believe.

SAGITTARIUS RISING (OR SAGITTARIUS SUN)

All work and no play is pretty boring, my daring darling. It's time to celebrate where you’re at right now. Even if you're far from your goal, the first half of June presents some lovely opportunities to stop thinking and start doing. During the early hours of June 3rd, sweet yet salty Venus in Aries meets up with unexpected Uranus. If you’re able, set this day aside for something self-indulgent or leave it open to the unexpected. The first weekend of the month will provide opportunities to pursue a creative, fun hobby or help playfully transform some of the hard work that has consumed you. You can’t push blindly forward without sitting down and digesting your experiences first. Reflect on where you’ve come from and give yourself a pat on the back.

CAPRICORN RISING (OR CAPRICORN SUN)

There are plenty of opportunities for power struggles, so treat yourself to a little Venus in Taurus style pampering this month; the pleasures of self-care are a necessity, not a luxury. As three quick moving planets move into caring Cancer, you may find your energies focused on others in your life. On June 4th, impulsive Mars moves into Cancer, followed by the ego-led Sun and dualistic Mercury (June 20th and 21st). Depending on your personal natal chart, the shift from fire to water energy will be either a wet blanket or the cool drink of water you’ve been searching for. Find a healthy balance between self-neglect and self-obsession.  Don't let others control you. You’re a sturdy babe; find a way to embody the saying, “do no harm but take no shit.”

AQUARIUS RISING (OR AQUARIUS SUN)

You insightful, brilliant genius friend: are you ready to get to work? The full moon in Sagittarius on June 9th will give you an opportunity to cut away the garbage and get to some deep healing with the support of your community. You are a visionary and this full moon will serve up  some harsh realities. It’s time to heal and stop avoiding the breakthrough you’re ready for.  Maybe your next step is to do the Saturn work of releasing emotions by tossing your ego into your daily routines and work. While Mars is in Cancer (June 4th through July 20th), you will find the fuel to get things done. Think of it as parenting yourself. Whatever the framework, it’s time to prioritize the activities, medications, routines or short-term fasts that aid you in freeing yourself from what plagues you.

PISCES RISING (OR PISCES SUN)

Though this month will likely be tense, the Cancer new moon on June 23rd is just the thing to soothe your weary soul. With four planets in Cancer (the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Mars) in your house of self-expression, this new moon offers you a chance to truly heal from a deep soul wound or see a major paradigm shift. Seed new moon ideas and plans that you’d like to hatch in December 2017. During Cancer season, which begins on the new moon and lasts until July 22nd, find the self-love and self-acceptance you’ve been aching for. Be your most radiant self and find outlets for fun and play. Nurture the joy in your life.

Horoscopes May 2017

  • Mercury stations direct 5/3
  • Full Moon in Scorpio 5/10
  • Mercury ingress into Taurus 5/17
  • Sun ingress into Gemini 5/20
  • New Moon in Gemini 5/25

Retrogrades were all the rage in March and April, but this month begins with Mercury stationed direct (as it moves forward from our vantage point on Earth), and by the end of May, both Mercury and Venus will be out of their retrograde shadows. This means they will regain full strength and begin to push us ahead, rather than asking us to review what has already happened.

Prepare for a fiery month. As the days get longer, we will gain momentum on our projects and activities. We may be compelled to “do” without pausing, listening, sorting out feelings or thinking through consequences.

ARIES RISING (OR ARIES SUN)

Have you been running in place, tethered by invisible forces, or feeling stuck in the mud? This month provides an opportunity to escape your rut by sharing, learning about or teaching the ideas you’ve been ruminating on in 2017. If your ideas are muddled, pay extra attention to the words and chatter in your daily life for clues. Your ruling planet (action-oriented Mars) is in quick witted Gemini all May long, making you even more opinionated than usual. As energetic Mars leads the way, your ideas, thoughts and methods of relating to the world will be bold. Depending on what you do with it, Venus could soften blunt language and aggressive mannerisms, or could make you seem especially selfish. This is the month to gently persuade others to join you in your adventures, not to brag, berate or dominate to get what you want.

TAURUS RISING (OR TAURUS SUN)

How do you align your daily actions and routines with your ultimate cosmic goals? How can you fight for justice if you’re unwilling to fight for yourself? From April 28th to June 5th, your ruling planet, pleasure loving Venus, moves through your 12th house of self-undoing, karma, and powerlessness. During this time, there will be an emphasis on your choices and routines in day-to-day life, and how they conflict with your unconscious trauma, your tendency towards martyrdom and your mental self-sabotage. Sound scary? This is not the easiest transit, especially for a gentle soul who likes things to stay the same, but fear not: now is the time to trust yourself. Like the unwavering bull, your gift is your strength, steadfastness and determination. Find a direction and pursue your goals at a slow, steady pace. You won’t get there in one day, so take your time and beware of burnout.

GEMINI RISING (OR GEMINI SUN)

With sly Mercury as your ruling planet, haters say you’re fickle and, worse, two-faced. They don’t understand that as a mutable maverick you’re gifted with the ability to see things from all sides, and to shift and evolve with ease. The month starts off buzzing with the social energy of charming Mercury in adventurous Aries; prior to May 15th, throw yourself into a new social hobby that focuses on self-improvement, such as a creative writing group or a body-positive group exercise class. During the second half of the month, take time to withdraw so you may study, meditate or examine your inner self. The hidden workings of your mind, especially your unconscious compulsions and obsessions, will be more accessible at this time. You can gain a lot from slowing down to surrender, heal, resolve an addiction or gain resolution.

CANCER RISING (OR CANCER SUN)

Juggling work and home life is stressing you out, crabby patty. Even if your “work” is your art and your “home” is tending to one houseplant, chances are, you feel torn between responsibility to self and responsibility to others. As expansive Jupiter moves retrograde through your fourth house of home, there may be too much in your domestic life to balance, or you may be transitioning to a new apartment or reevaluating your roots. You are ruled by the Moon and lunar emotions, making it especially easy to lose yourself in the needs of others at this time, so remember to put your safety mask on first. The new moon on May 25th, invites you to name the ways you punish and insult yourself in private. What negative self-talk can be replaced with the seeds of kind, healing words and mantras?

LEO RISING (OR LEO SUN)

You are ruled by the Sun, the light which makes life possible. Imagine yourself standing on a stage, and notice that at this time of year, the spotlight shines brightest on you. Turn your attention outward for a moment and look into the audience. Who are they? Where are you and what is your place in this world? What do you do, not for money under capitalist patriarchy, but as your life’s purpose? How do your actions contribute to your community, friends and neighbors? Get real, and don’t let your pride or stubbornness get in the way of honesty. May 9th will bring an opportunity for particularly intense and powerful insight, offering you the chance to transform a daily habit. Let the full moon in Scorpio on May 10th remind you of how far you’ve come since October 2016.

VIRGO RISING (OR VIRGO SUN)

No one doubts that your gifts are your cleverness, wit and enthusiasm for knowledge. I know your instinct is to make a to-do list and check those dang boxes. Yet with your ruling planet (witty Mercury) traveling through Aries, you might feel a loss of the control you are accustomed to. For the first half of the month, you might be impatient or brash with the resources others bring to you. Now is the time to sort out and make sense of things that seem too dark or taboo to bring to the surface. Schedule an appointment with your therapist, astrologer or life coach. Once Mercury moves into Taurus on May 15th, things will settle into a more stable routine allowing you to broaden your worldview.

LIBRA RISING (OR LIBRA SUN)

Love, beauty and relating is the air you breathe, sweetheart. Your ruling planet, Venus, is moving through your seventh house of relationships and partnerships. That is not to say that romance is your only motivator--I’m talking relationships of all kinds: family, housemates, ex-lovers and peers. Relating and connecting to those who know you on a more intimate level feels especially important this month. On May 19th, Venus in Aries (a placement of assertive self-love) will compete with Jupiter in Libra, which encourages expansion through partnerships. Watch out for conflict in your ideologies and your personal behavior; practice what you preach. Treat your sweeties the way you want them to treat you, and treat yourself with the generosity you shower on others. Celebrate where you are and leave room for new love in your life, even friend love, the love of an acquaintance’s baby or a new furry companion.

SCORPIO RISING (OR SCORPIO SUN)

You need focus this month. While motivated Mars (your ruling planet) moves through Gemini all month, it’s easy to get excited about everything and jump from one thing to the next. You’ll do best if you can eliminate distractions, debunk illusions and use that energy to focus on the task at hand.  Celebrate yourself and all of your mysteries with a sexy Scorpio full moon party on May 10th. Be mindful of power struggles over your values, and how they interact with those of other people; issues related to resources that you share may be especially charged. Notice your anxieties about wealth or poverty (spiritual, monetary or otherwise) as they could be especially high right now. If you’re up for the challenge, it’s a good time to evaluate the stories you tell yourself about your access to resources. What are you lacking? Where are you abundant? How can you better accept help and support in the areas where you are struggling?

SAGITTARIUS RISING (OR SAGITTARIUS SUN)

You are often at the center of the party, my adventurous pal, and with buoyant Jupiter as your ruler, you usually land on your feet. But maybe your footing has been a bit faulty lately. With Saturn in your first house of self until December 2017, be prepared to continue working and reworking themes of self-improvement and self-mastery. Buoyant Jupiter in your eleventh house of social responsibility and community wants justice for all, and aches for harmonious, sustainable peace in the midst of chaotic uncertainty. How can you integrate the self-discipline you’ve been learning in order to create your vision for a greater society? How can your drive, focus and determination be used to create the beautiful community you seek? What can you do, spearhead or create that will feed the communal spiritual growth you are longing for? Spend some time thinking about a daily habit you want to give up, or a new one you’d like to commit to, and take time on the May 25th Gemini new moon to put your wishes into words. The time is ripe to give up smoking, start a daily meditation practice or otherwise feed your physical and spiritual self.

CAPRICORN RISING (OR CAPRICORN SUN)

You are ruled by Saturn, the sturdy determined planet of discipline, and you don’t mess around. You’re a hard worker and have a lot to be proud of. You have the gift of struggling against the impossible. On May 28th and 29th, quick and lively Mars opposes focused Saturn in a power struggle. If you can, structure time to get it out, alone or with others, and let your voice be heard: blast punk music on a roadtrip to the mountains, sing sad karaoke songs by yourself or write letters to your hidden fears and burn them. Get friends together and take turns screaming into the void.

AQUARIUS RISING (OR AQUARIUS SUN)

My dear Aquarian, your ruling planets (mature Saturn and rebellion Uranus*) support each other all month. Acting with bold individuality in your everyday affairs (chatting with your librarian, calling your siblings etc.) will help you rework your dreams and visions for the future. May 17th through May 20th will be the height of this collaboration between serious philosophical inquiry and adventurous authenticity. Now is the time to get unstuck from the past and plan the future that you deserve, especially when it comes to your commitment to greater community or social justice work. Trust your gut, your intuition and your fiery passion. The Moon in Leo on May 1st through May 3rd and again on May 29th through May 31st will give you an extra boost of self-confidence. I know it’s cliche, but beware of drama, especially the kind you initiate.

*depending on who you ask, your rising sign is ruled by one or both of these planets

PISCES RISING (OR PISCES SUN)

You’ve transcended the mundane before and the time has come to evolve again, dreamboat. Your ruling planets (exaggerated Jupiter and escapist Neptune*) are at odds with each other from May 11th to May 25th. This theme of transcendence emerged in late 2016 and will be back again later this year. Jupiter retrograde this month reworks and integrates subtle psychological patterns in the search for spiritual growth. Meanwhile, Neptune in Pisces makes knowing yourself challenging but essential. It’s almost like you are fine-tuning your balancing scales in order to find the harmony between give and take and codependence and autonomy. Maybe you want to hitch your wagon to others and let them help carry your burden, or maybe others will latch onto you in order to sustain themselves. Watch your boundaries. Respect your personal power while asking others to do the same.

*depending on who you ask, your rising sign is ruled by one or both of these planets

Retrograde Focus We’re all familiar with the annual urge to spring clean. As flower bulbs push through the ground and buds form on the branches, we’re equally inspired to breathe new life into our physical spaces. This April, we are also asked to clean up our psychological baggage. With a whopping four planets in retrograde, this is the granddaddy of mulligans, and our chance to try different approaches in order to manifest the results we are seeking. We will have lots of love in our corner as we endeavor to change the constructs that hold us back, as both the Libra Full Moon on the 11th, and Taurus New Moon on the 26th, are ruled by Venus, the Goddess of Love who encourages us to seek balance and beauty in our relationships to people, spaces and resources.

Our month of retrogrades begins with an Aries infused Venus moving back into Pisces on the 3rd. At this point, we’ve reassessed our personal values in relationships and can now apply them to reimagining our self-love and relationship ideals. This may work hand-in-hand with Saturn’s retrograde starting on the 6th, which pushes us to evolve our belief systems. If we do the work, we’ll be charged and open to receive the love we are seeking when Venus goes direct on the 15th. On April 10th, Mercury enters retrograde and brings communication challenges until May 3rd, encouraging us to practice serenity, patience and mindfulness. Finally, Pluto goes retrograde in Capricorn on the 20th, encouraging us to change the ways we have been approaching familial, social and political structures.

ARIES RISING OR SUN SIGN

During the first week of April, Venus retrograde brings focus to the roles of balance and ritual in your spiritual life, while Saturn retrograde allows you to begin replacing old and outdated world views. Mercury retrograde on the 10th may slow communications and transactions related to financial matters--wait until after May 3rd to move forward with major contracts. The Libra Full Moon may bring change to a business or romantic relationship around the 11th. During the last week of April, you may feel that your material and spiritual philosophies are at odds with each other. Writing down some clear and organized lists about your values will create clarity. On the 26th, the Taurus New Moon helps you manifest intentions for integrating your life values as well as seeking abundance.

TAURUS RISING OR SUN SIGN

Early this month, Venus retrograde invites you to rethink your approach to promoting equality and justice within your community, while Saturn retrograde helps you dissolve ineffective partnerships and make plans that will increase your access to other people’s resources. When Mercury goes retrograde from April 10th to May 3rd, you’ll experience difficulty expressing yourself and may feel some confusion about your place in the world. However, you’ll be making progress throughout the month and the more you can bring organization and structure to your thinking, the more clarity you’ll receive about who you are and what you’re here to do. On the 11th, the Libra Full Moon brings attention to support that helps you succeed at work, and is a good time to honor work relationships with gratitude. At the end of the month, you’ll be super motivated to grow your bank account, and the Taurus New Moon will further help you set intentions for accruing the resources you need.

Try opening up different channels for spiritual expression at this time, and take it easy on yourself. The Libra Full Moon may deliver a creative charge, and by the end of the month, you’ll feel increased passion and drive to take life by the handlebars and ride with power. The Taurus New Moon at the end of the month will initiate a process of uncovering desires that have been lying beneath the surface. Connect with the earth to help unearth these feelings--it's time to start digging!

We are poised for an exploratory and growth-provoking season, with the energies of Sagittarius, The Teacher, brought into focus with the passing of Venus, Mercury and the Sun through this sign. Additionally, Saturn, The Disciplinarian, has been visiting Sagittarius since the end of December 2014, which essentially marked the commencement of U.S. election primaries. The Sagittarian centaur -- half human, half horse -- acts with a combination of knowledge and instinct to uncover truths expressed through our philosophies, religions and cultures. This is a time to pay careful attention to the higher mind, the collective conscience, and the shared ideas that surface within societies.

Election month promises to bring many of society’s beliefs about human rights, the role of government and global relations to the limelight. Mars, the planet that drives action, will enter the sign of Aquarius, The Radical, just two days after election day. This is an innovative, future-seeking, and erratic signature that has consistently disrupted established paradigms throughout history. Aquarius tends to be more of a group energy or societal current, and for this reason, we would expect disruption to occur at the grassroots level. With the warrior energy of Mars in disruptive Aquarius this month, expect factions like Anonymous (the activist hacker network), and movements like Black Lives Matter and Occupy Wall Street, to gain greater prominence and ability to spur change within our society.

ARIES RISING OR SUN SIGN
For Aries, the new moon in Scorpio on October 30th stimulates transformation through death, rebirth, sex and magic. This is a time to set intentions for your goals around the transmutation of power. What do you need to cast aside so something more fruitful can grow in its place? Who are your allies for building your emotional, physical and financial resources? With these intentions set, the Taurus full moon on November 14th will provide the persistence you need to manifest your goals related to resource accrual. Harmonious Venus is helping you develop a balanced vision for your place in society, while the Sun is revitalizing your relationships and Mars is driving you to socialize new ideas at a community level. Trust your instincts during this time, and also trust your confidantes.

TAURUS RISING OR SUN SIGN
The full moon in Taurus on November 14th will provide you an opportunity to manifest much personal power. However, the full moon encourages us to purge and release, an act that does not always come easily to Taurus. Since we’re dealing with the core identity, this is a time to examine your shadows. Which aspects of your personality do you keep suppressed below the surface? And, where do these parts of you emerge when they cannot be hidden any longer? With the Sun continuing to energize your relationships throughout the 22nd, try exposing shadow thoughts, feelings and behaviors with friends and family that you trust. Remember that examining and exposing your shadows will ultimately provide opportunity for your light to shine brighter.

GEMINI RISING OR SUN SIGN
Saturn has been occupying Gemini’s house of relationships for the past year, bringing some restriction, double-guessing and slow moving energy around the building and maintaining of important partnerships. The good news is that intellectual Mercury will lend the tool of communication this month, helping to push forward through the stagnation you’ve been experiencing. Spend some time thinking about the patterns that are holding your relationship(s) back. When Mercury conjuncts Saturn on the 23rd, you’ll have an opportunity to communicate more thoughtfully as emotions will not be flying high at this time. Choose your words carefully, and listen attentively. By mid-November, Venus will offer the possibility of resolving conflicts with your intimate partners in mutually beneficial ways. If the relationship in question is a business partnership, keep an eye out for secrecy in the workplace until the Sun moves into Sagittarius on the 22nd.

CANCER RISING OR SUN SIGN
Your truly powerful creative potential is ready to manifest in the outer world throughout November. The new moon in Scorpio on October 30th will supercharge opportunity for visionary breakthrough. Scorpion energy asks you to dig down into the depths of emotions to reveal what lies beneath the surface. Think about the positive and negative feelings that drive behavior. Lust, love, greed, survival, belonging, becoming…  When you are able to connect your creative output to the themes that inspire and motivate your audience on the deepest core level, you will achieve even greater impact than you may have imagined. By mid-November, thoughtful and discriminating Mercury will increase organization and communication in the day-to-day management of your project. Use all of these wonderful tools to manifest a truly inspirational outcome.

LEO RISING OR SUN SIGN
There’s a strong push and pull happening between your home and work life this month, and you may feel your career taking a second seat to domestic sensibilities. The new moon in Scorpio on October 30th presents an opportunity to set intentions around this dichotomy. The full moon in Taurus on November 14th will bring these intentions to action in the area of your career. Really think about the balance you are trying to achieve, and which path will allow you to feed your passions while also providing for the people that depend on you. With warrior Mars bringing some combativeness to your relationships, be careful not to act impulsively and burn any bridges. Remember, transition takes time.

VIRGO RISING OR SUN SIGN
No one is noticing the changes in our immediate community more than Virgo this month. These changes have you reexamining your perceptions about, and perhaps reconsidering, the type of environment best suited for you. Beautiful Venus illuminates your creative outlets this month, encouraging you to seek pleasure and play. Children, animals and love affairs will offer abundant inspiration at this time, and may have a transforming effect on your personal viewpoints. On the 10th, assertive Mars will heighten your drive and efficiency at work. You will achieve a satisfying sense of mastery with Mars in your corner.

LIBRA RISING OR SUN SIGN
Dear Libra, for the last year Saturn has been straining your relationships with siblings and neighbors, drawing attention to some differences in your worldviews. In November, there is ample help from the planets to help you make progress in this area of your life. With Venus, you are encouraged to develop equitable partnerships, Mercury aids you in processing and communicating your goals, and the Sun brings vital life force to drive you forward and provoke growth. Mid-month, the full moon in Taurus will help you to feel grounded, and you may feel even more attached to your viewpoints than usual. At the end of the month, the Sagittarian new moon encourages you to solidify your intentions surrounding the difficulties you’re experiencing with friends and neighbors, and pushes you towards resolution.

SCORPIO RISING OR SUN SIGN
You may be all too familiar with Scorpion characteristics like secrecy, suspicion and the infamous sting of the scorpion. But did you know Scorpio has two additional totems? The eagle flies high above, assessing and collecting information from the land below, and the phoenix bursts into flames, transforming into an entirely new identity. As a whole, these three symbols represent the cycle of death and rebirth, and the process of achieving transformation by exposing what’s hidden. It’s a tiresome but oh so rewarding cycle (once the pain of the burning plumage wears off). The new moon in Scorpio on October 30th provides you an opportunity for self introspection, and to set intentions around who you are and who you want to be. Set some time within 48 hours of this new moon to meditate, pull tarot cards, paint or journal. See what comes up. These creative and spiritual practices will help steer you in the right direction for the next transformation to come.

SAGITTARIUS RISING OR SUN SIGN
For the last two years, Saturn has been visiting your sign and asking you to think about who you are, and what you’re here on this Earth to do. You’ve been tried, tested, fallen, and gotten up too many times to count. However, all of your tribulations serve to help you create the person you are destined to become. Saturn is actually here to help you with this process, teaching through trial and error. On November 29th, the new moon in Sagittarius will help you move forward by setting and manifesting intentions around your personal identity and expression. Until then, watch out for impulsive Mars in your house of communication. You won’t have much of a filter at this time, so be careful not to fall victim to foot-in-mouth syndrome.

CAPRICORN RISING OR SUN SIGN
Capricorn, you’ve been hard at work as usual and you might just see some financial gain starting this month when passionate Mars enters your house of values, resources and possessions on November 10th. From then until December 20th, you’ll experience an abundance of drive and motivation to build greater financial security for yourself and your dependents. You may also be called to take on more of a leadership position in your community through November. With all of this building energy pushing out, don’t forget to care for yourself and your personal appearance. Try a new hairstyle or invest in some fun fall garments. This month you’re bound to look good, feel good, and do good.

AQUARIUS RISING OR SUN SIGN
This month, you may find yourself more personally connected to your progressive social ideals, and primed to take action to move these ideas forward. This time of year can often bring up your role in society, in which you may assume greater responsibility as well as recognition. October ends with the new moon in Scorpio, helping you to manifest transformation in the public sphere. Mid-month, the full moon in Taurus reminds you to stay grounded through your homelife and family. Use all of these energies to your advantage, Aquarius, as your revolutionary spirit is needed more than ever. Don’t be afraid to express your opinions, even if they rock the boat. When the Sun moves into Sagittarius on the 22nd, you will truly have the power to mobilize groups into larger bodies that can propel progress as a collective. We’re moving fast into the future, Aquarius, and you are helping to lead the way!

PISCES RISING OR SUN SIGN
This month, Neptune the visionary planet of dreams and imagination goes direct in Pisces after six long months in retrograde. If you’ve found yourself second guessing your intuition up to this point, you’ll be relieved to know your psychic compass is pointing North again. The lunar cycle this month will bring focus to how you learn and develop perceptions about the immediate world around you, and the bigger world beyond you. Travel and exploring your own borders through meditation and dream work will increase your naturally empathetic nature, drawing you in closer to the cosmic heart. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with all the feels, try exercises that ground you to the earth. Jumping into a big pile of autumn leaves, or making a snow angel on Mount Hood will have the dual benefit of providing fun, and solid footing.

Horoscopes October 2016

The fall equinox on September 22nd is one of two days in the entire year when the Earth’s axis is stationed parallel to the Sun, creating an almost equal amount of daylight and darkness at all latitudes. It is apt that on this day of balanced light energy, the sun moves into the sign of Libra, driving us to develop equitable partnerships. Keenly aware of the tipping scale, we are reminded that a relationship must feed the self, as the self must feed a relationship. When the Sun moves into Scorpio on October 22nd, we dive deeper into the mysteries of relatedness, and act on our instincts, letting go of associations no longer serving us, while adding more passion and emotional intensity to those dear to our hearts. This month, it is time to actively engage the give and take, the push and pull, and the dark and light that exist to facilitate growth. The Aries full moon on October 15th will be a reminder of these dichotomies, bringing some heartfelt relationship work to culmination, and driving a deeper sense of self and empowerment.
